Brittany A. Williams, Ph.D., LCPC, NCC
Dr. Brittany A. Williams is invested in fostering alternative environments to assist people with mental health concerns, and who have had traumatic life experiences. Brittany’s desire is to be an agent for change through social justice and advocacy, and she feels empowered as a licensed counselor that her influence will change counseling settings and communities of color that may seek counseling services. Brittany focuses on the quality life-changing therapeutic experiences and believes in meeting people where they are in order to provide them with the support and tools necessary to live a life of wellness. Dr. Williams identifies as a humanistic counselor and believes in the client’s ability to be active in their therapy and work with them to facilitate a change.
Dr. Williams is an assistant professor in the department of counseling and psychological studies at Bowie State University. She earned her doctoral degree in Counseling and Supervision at James Madison University’s CACREP Accredited Counseling and Supervision program and a M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a certificate of advanced study in Child Therapy from Syracuse University. Brittany is invested in culturally sensitive counseling practices and understanding individuals who are impacted by social, psychological, and cultural factors of racial and ethnic disparities in mental health treatment. She is committed to fostering positive outcomes among marginalized populations and communities. Dr. Williams is devoted to her goals of training for African American counselors and supervisors to best service the needs of the Black community.
Brittany Williams received her certification as a National Certified Counselor and is a member of several professional organizations such as the American Counselors Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, to name a few. Brittany is dedicated to helping clients from all age groups with differing presenting problems such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, adjustment or life transitions, trauma, and loss/grief. Brittany’s compassion, empathy, and individualized care can assure any client she serves that they are not alone in this life-changing experience. Her goal is to support individuals and assist them to thrive through many life circumstances.
